World Book Day have announced a line-up of books for young adults, which includes the outstanding I Have No Secrets by Farshore author Penny Joelson.
World Book Day, whose mission is to celebrate reading for pleasure and encourage children and young people to read and love books, has revealed a new offering specifically for teen and young adult readers as part of its 21st World Book Day celebrations.
Working with booksellers and publishers, World Book Day are targeting teenagers and young adults in their own online spaces as well as offering a choice of books in store, encouraging a celebration of books and reading.
The special edition full-length titles will be available at the exclusive price of £2.50 or £1.50 with a World Book Day token (special World Book Day editions in participating retailers only) and includes Farshore’s very own Penny Joelson (author of I Have No Secrets) alongside John Green (An Abundance of Katherines), Frances Hardinge (Fly by Night), Taran Matharu (Summoner: The Novice) and Benjamin Zephaniah (Gangsta Rap).
In line with the titles, World Book Day will present ‘BOOKCLUBBING’, an exciting new movement encouraging teenagers to spread the word about their favourite stories and make a noise about books online and in real life. Penny Joelson was born in London where she still lives with her husband and two children.
She began working with disabled people when she was a teenager, which gave her inspiration for her Carnegie longlisted novel and its insights.
Penny runs Creative Writing for Children workshops at City Lit and is currently working on her next novel.

The Biggest Book Show on Earth
Alongside activity on World Book Day itself, the charity will be running a national tour of author/illustrator events in theatre venues around the country,’The Biggest Book Show on Earth’, from 26 February to 03 March. The stellar line-up for 2018 will feature 35 authors and illustrators and visit six locations throughout the UK and Ireland. Among the all-star line-up are Farshore’s Katherine Woodfine and Steven Lenton.
Katherine Woodfine is the author of the hugely popular The Sinclair’s Mysteries series. The Midnight Peacock, the final book of the thrilling quartet, was published in October 2017. A true champion of children’s literature, Woodfine was previously an Arts Project Manager for Booktrust, where she project-managed the Children’s Laureateship and YALC, the UK’s first Young Adult Literature Convention, curated by Malorie Blackman.
Steven Lenton is one half of the illustrator/author duo behind the recent picture book adaptation of Dodie Smith’s The Hundred and One Dalmatians. Lenton and author Peter Bently bring the magic of the classic children’s story to a whole new audience in this beautifully illustrated adaptation, published October 2017.

World Book Day Award
The charity are also bringing back the incredibly successful World Book Day Award (WoBoD) for the fourth year, which gives schools the opportunity to win life-changing libraries of books.
In 2017 the WoBoD competition involved over 76,000 children, their families and communities, themed around A Child of Books by Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston, published by Walker Books. This year, World Book Day are partnering with Piccadilly Press, theming the award on the Flying Fergus series of books by Sir Chris Hoy, Joanna Nadin and Clare Elsom.
All three will join the judging panel, with £20,000 of books to be bought in local bookshops to be won. For the first time, every single child that enters will also receive a certificate signed by the Flying Fergus team and the winning school will be visited by Chris Hoy, Joanna Nadin and Clare Elsom to receive their prize.
